UNESCO - Historic Sanctuary Of Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height; its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Just loved the first sight of it, literally a dream come true :) When I was still in school I had a favourite book called 'Wonders of the Earth' - Machu Picchu was the first photo covering a whole page, and even then I knew if I was to travel to one place on another continent that would be it.
Sent from Aguas Calientes, the village closest to the site, reachable only by train or on foot.

  1. Wow, you've put a lot of effort into this blog. It's amazing! I'm glued :-) Loads of your postcards are great, but I decided to comment under this one because I'd so love to get a Machu Picchu postcard (and visit the place!).
