Hiss and Maa and Hee-haw

Received for the Matching Stamp Tag - it was matching in a sense that all these animals are on my wishlist! Thanks so much Michael. I am STILL trying to sort out my collections...I have already started receiving doubles...but I have so little proactive time since I've started working. Writing postcards takes time too, I've been reminded lately! Still, the rewards are sweet :) It seems that my mailman likes to stop by once a week - and this tuesday I got a lot of 22, which probably isn't much for some people, but it's been a while since I've received such a bunch last. Yay 😊

Green Tree Python

Now I boldly named this post Green Tree Python even though its a guess..! A little bit of research and perhaps I am right...if anyone knows otherwise please let me know :) Another great surprise from Bryon and his trip to Florida, thank you!

Rainbow Boa

And a new snake card! Epicrates cenchria cenchria is a boa species native to Central and South America, known for its attractive iridescent sheen caused by structural coloration, which makes it a popular pet. I can't tell if this is the right way to show the card lol, where's its head at? With lovely animal stamps, thanks to Natalia :)

Tomb Of Nefertari (detail), Egypt

Its been a while since I've received a postcard from Egypt...This is a detail from Tomb 66, one of the largest in the Valley of the Queens, covered with pictures of Nefertari, an Egyptian queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives (or principal wives) of Ramesses the Great. This detail shows a winged uraeus cobra, which protects the queen's cartouche and a shen-sign with its wings. A special addition to my snakes collection, thanks to Mohammad :)

Philippine Freshwater Sea Snake

Also called Garman's sea snake or Lake snake (Hydrophis semperi), its a rare species of venomous sea snake found only in a single lake - Lake Taal - on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is noted for being one of two known species of sea snake (and the only one in its family) that is known to be found almost-exclusively in freshwater (the other one is Crocker's sea snake native to the Solomon Islands). Locally it is known as duhol.

At first you wonder where the head is! When I swapped for this card I still had no idea how unique this snake is. Many thanks to Isabel! 

Official - Sidewinding Adder

Another great official snake card! And species I wasn't familiar with so far - sidewinding adder or Bitis peringueyi, a venomous viper species found in Namibia and southern Angola, a small snake with an average total length of 20–25 cm. An ambush hunter, it buries itself just beneath the surface of the sand with only its eyes and the tip of its tail exposed; when prey happens by, it is seized and envenomated.

Earlier this year I have sent about a dozen officials, and this is one of the awesomest comebacks! Big card with a rattlesnake, thanks to Mike from Albuquerque (I can never remember this city's name properly heh) in New Mexico :))

GEO - Whipsnake And Treefrog

'Both the Whipsnake and its potential prey the Treefrog are relying on their camouflage colour; green as the leaves of a helophyte. In this case the amphibian's only rescue lies in a quick leap-reaction.'

So rarely do I come across a snake postcard. Happy :)))

Diamond-Back Rattlesnake

This amazing creature arrived from Serbia although its not native there; rattlesnakes populate the Americas.

There are 32 known species of this group of venomous snakes - the picture shows the Diamond-Back Rattlesnake, which can be the eastern or the western kind (the eastern seems to have darker patterns though).

I am very thankful for this card as it seems harder than imagined to get hold of snake cards..!

Vipera Berus In Our Garden

And now something completely different...I know this is supposed to be a postcrossing blog, but i just HAD TO include these photos here! This is the snake we found in our garden a few days ago - it appears to be the common european adder (but not so common around where i live..!), which is poisonous but not deadly for humans. I've been showing these photos to everyone saying 'isnt she lovely?' but noone seems to share my enthusiasm...! I might add that i love postcards with snakes, but they are not very common...esp with the snakes in the wild. ok tomato garden can be hardly called 'wild' but maybe you know what i mean! i'd love to have cards similar to these photos :=D
