Tibetan Folk Costume

One card from the set of ethnic people in China, I found this a very interesting headwear :) There are no details on the back but mention of Tibetan peoples living in Chinese provinces, I wish I had more info about this, but am nevertheless happy to have this card in my collection, thank you Hanna :)

Akha Hilltribe Woman, Thailand

The lady is puffing it up...The Akha are an indigenous hill tribe who live in small villages at higher elevations in the mountains of Thailand, Burma, Laos, and Yunnan Province in China. They made their way from China into Southeast Asia during the early 20th century.
Women wear broad leggings, a short black skirt with a white beaded sporran, a loose fitting black jacket with heavily embroidered cuffs and lapels. Akha women are known for their embroidery skills.
I haven't been to any of the northern Thailand villages...though I did want to, very much so. It requires more time and more chilling way of travel, which hopefully will happen one day :)

Touareg Woman On A Donkey, Algeria

Oh how happy I was to receive this surprise postcard from Riyad, and how gutted that it came in this state! I cannot imagine where its been to get crumpled like that...but the joy still beat the sadness and i am very grateful :)) Showing a Touareg woman wearing festive clothing.

Iraqi Woman On A Camel

Beautiful Iraqi lady wearing traditional clothes, in front of Taq-i Kisra - the only visible remaining structure of the ancient city of Ctesiphon,  the imperial capital of the Parthian Empire and the Sasanian Empire and one of the great cities of late ancient Mesopotamia.
As last time the postcard was literally covered with cancellations! Many thanks to Hasnain :)

Women In Cuban Traditional Dress

Traditional Cuban attire for women, like other aspects of Cuban culture, has its roots in Spanish and African influences. Most of the traditional outfits worn by Cuban women focus on lightweight fabrics and bright colors.
I was lucky to find this postcard, and only one single copy of it, on a Habana square on my day of departure. Moving on before i get too nostalgic :)

Inuit Girl, Greenland

And the last card for today, a special treat! Showing an Inuit girl in her traditional clothes, in a typical Greenland landscape (or not? one would expect ice i guess..!) and the name in flag colours. Whats more, it was sent with the current Europa stamp showing mail delivery by sleigh. So brilliant, thanks a zillion Arnold! :))

Glimpses Of Bavaria, Germany

The Free State Of Bavaria is Germany's south-eastern and largest state - its larger than Croatia and the population is triple! The capital is Munich, country's third largest city. It is one of my favourite cities, perhaps because it was my home for a year...but I think I am objective when I say there is lots to see and do there, lots of history and happenings. I really like this multiview cos its so different from what you usually see on german postcards...And the flower stamp is gorgeous :)

Bulgarian Folk Costumes

Historical town Koprivshtitsa (Bulgarian: Копривщица) in central Bulgaria is known for its folk music festivals, making it a very popular tourist destination. This photo was taken during one of those festivals in 2010 :) They look wonderful don't they..?! Thank you Nadezhda :)

Mom And Child In Lapland, Finland

The traditional Sami costume is called Gákti - its colors, patterns and the jewellery of the clothing can tell if a person is single or married and where the person is from. Traditionally the gákti was made from reindeer leather, but nowadays it's more common to use wool, cotton or silk.
Great colours and a wonderful photo, thanks Sini! :)

Girl From Yongning Luxi, China

The girl wears her best garment and topknot which is inlaid with
chalcedony, amber, calcite etc.
The clasps on her headwear are golden,
as are the taches on her silk coat.

I'd love to see this traditional clothing in colour too as all the semi-precious stones must make it colourful! I love this portrait, thank you Vickie for sharing it with me :))

Costumes Of Yi, China

The Yi or Lolo people are an ethnic group of nearly 8 million, living in China, Thailand and Vietnam. Their traditional dress is simply astounding, the colours, the intricate designs..! I was so happy to swap for this card, thank you lots Bee! :))

Views Of Mongolia

In 2004 Ash took a journey from Croatia to Moscow, taking the Transsibirean Railway (highly on my list of priorities!) to Beijing via Mongolia. He sent me two cards from Mongolia - the 1st showing mountains, whose 'identity' I cannot determine (but possibly Mongolian Altai). The 2nd card must be one of my all-time favourites - a boy in traditional clothing riding a native animal (yaks are so cool aren't they?) in a beautiful scenery. I absolutely adore it!! <3 (any idea which lake this is...i guess it would be hard to guess lol)

Bulgaria - Prohodna Cave & Donkeys

Its been hard lately to find any new donkey cards, but these two late additions are quite equisite :)))
The 2nd card is a great combination of wonders of nature & my favourite animal - Prohodna Cave is a karst cave situated in the Iskar Gorge, central Bulgaria. Its most notable feature are the two equal-sized holes in the ceiling, popularly known as Oknata or rather The Eyes Of God. I wonder what all those donkeys are doing there..!
Thank you Lilia, you are the main 'culprit' in making my collection of Bulgarian cards this great and enjoyable ;)
