Mount Jackson and Mount Fusilade, Glacier National Park, Montana, 1942.

Ansel Adams is perhaps one of the most familiar names in photography; born in San Francisco, he was a landscape photographer known for his black-and-white images of the American West. He helped found Group f/64, an association of photographers advocating 'pure' photography which favoured sharp focus and the use of the full tonal range of a photograph.

This card was sent to me in a tag as a WHS card but I am more focused on it as a photograph...As today I awoke suddenly from a slumber and realised I need a new camera. I have pretty much ignored photography ever since I left the cruise ship - not sure if it was because of my job there, but...I guess it would be quite a coincidence otherwise. I can still practice on my old Canon 350D/Rebel XT but recently I have taken a fancy to more compact mirrorless cameras. Here's hoping!

Mucha is one of my favourite artists, and here is a photo showing his atelier where all those great works of his came to life. Eliška seems to be quite the artist herself, at first I thought the dragon was printed on the postcard (it wouldn't made sense but its so nicely done) but it was done by her, great stuff!

Children Of Fatima

Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia are three shepherd children at Fatima in Portugal who have experienced a Marian Appartion in 1917, which continued for six consecutive months. Fatima has since become a pilgrimage site. I wanted my mum to see his photo - thank you very much Cristela :)

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

 

A vintage take on 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil',  proverbial principle usually associated with the Three Wise Monkeys. The photo originates from ca.1930 but the author is yet unindentified...I may say I simply love it, thank you Michelle :)

Record Tay Salmon, Scotland

 

Here is an interesting re-print of a photography taken in 1922, showing Miss Georgina Ballantine who caught a record-size tay salmon (almost 1,4 meters in length), and it seems that record stays unbeaten ever since. Go girl! ;)

Riding A Donkey In 19th Century China

This card was sent to me from Finland for a private swap - I love the vintage look with colour accents! A reprint of a photography from 1887, printed in China. I was thrilled to discover this one, thank you Sini/Saint!

Prayer At Wat Sri Chum, Sukhothai, Thailand

In the North central Thailand there are remnants of the old Thai Empire capital of Sukhothai, dating from the 13th century. Sukhothai means Dawn Of Happiness :) It consisted of at least 193 temples that are now excavated and partly reconstructed.
I love this postcard as a photograph <3 I haven't realised until now that it is also an Unesco site..! But I will be searching for a wider depiction of the grand archaeological site to put it on my Unesco list :) Many thanks to Beam who sent this card for the Choose a Country RR - and the stamps are marvelous too! The ones with people actually have a sparkling relief xD

The Worswick Collection

During online research I have learned that Felice Beato was an Italian-English photographer one of the pioneers to take photographs in East Asia. He moved to Japan in 1863 where his influence was deep and lasting. Many of his photographs were hand-coloured!
