Lilford's wall lizard is a species of lizard of the Lacertidae family endemic to the Balearic Islands. It is also endangered due to its habitat loss :( A lovely addition to my collection, gracias Elena :)

Sand Lizard, UK Stamp Card

Royal Mail issues some fantastic sets of stamps and often these are printed on cards too - as the value of the stamp itself is rather high, I will probably never have it used on the back, but this postcard is a wonderful addition to my lizard collection :)

As I have returned to postcrossing recently, this also meant joining different tags and RRs on the Postcrossing forum site. There are three (if not more) favourites tags, which means you get to tag the last person in the thread if you have a postcard from their album of favourites. Alas not much has changed since I last tried to participate - most people don't favour view- or tourist cards, which means its tough for someone from a country like mine where such cards are prevalent...In the last couple of months of stalking I managed to tag - twice. In return I was tagged by Rachel, who not only sent me this card but adorned it with such a great selection of stamps - many MANY thanks!

And Then There Were Lizards

As I was saying..:) However, the one with the banana I find quite bizarre; whoever thought of making this a postcard I wonder...I think the little gecko might prefer hunting for bugs than posing on a banana :) (I suppose the same would be for the one peeking out of a glass bottle. Ah, those humans...)

Maçaroco Com Lagartixa

Being excited about my first day out in a port, and to be honest about all the postcards with beautiful nature (esp lizards) I have sent a few more from this enchanting Portuguese island. I have used the original title, Lagartixa being a lizard family, and Maçaroco being this species of Echium flowering plant native to this island only, and thus being nicknamed the Pride of Madeira.

I mean a lizard, how could I not..? :)

Green Lizard

It is a simple title but there is a reason for it - I am not sure which species exactly this is...! It is a postcard printed in Ukraine, sent from the UK, and only has 'lizard' printed on the back. Hurray :) What is more interesting here is, I have found a fellow lizard fan among the postcrossers, and this was our first swap. Thank you Fjara - interesting stamp as well :) (EUROPA 2001 water theme, Royal Mail issued Pond Life stamps; this is a Great Diving Beetle)

Chameleon Strikes A Pose

This card is even sparkly, which can't be seen on a photo so I haven't realised that until I've received it. Love the colours, and how cute  is the Garfield and Odie stamp?? Thanks a lot Cornelia :D

UNESCO - Central Highlands Of Sri Lanka

I have swapped for this postcard because there are cute little lizards on it - only later I've realised that it is part on an UNESCO site, double score..! Because the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka comprise three protected areas, one of which is pictured Horton Plains National Park. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 metres is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest with rich biodiversity; many species found here are endemic to the region.

The vertebrate fauna of the region includes 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, nine species of reptiles and eight species of amphibians. The birdie top right could be the Sri Lanka white-eye, a small passerine bird. The top left lizzie is possibly the Black-lipped Lizard (Calotes nigrilabris), while the bottom left one remains unknown. 

What else is unknown is the name of the sender, I have looked into my fb correspondence but to no avail...I must be more thorough and come back to say the proper thanks, esp considering the biggest amount of stamps I have ever seen on a Sri Lankan postcard :)

 

The Common Green Forest Lizard, Sri Lanka

Common for some, but very exotic for me! Calotes calotes is an agamid (a family of over 300 species of iguanian lizards) lizard found in the forests of the Western Ghats and the Shevaroy Hills in India, and Sri Lanka; considerably large species measuring 50 to 65 cm in length, including the tail.

Iguana Sunbathing In Trinidad

This is a special postcard...a photo taken by the sender, fitting perfectly into my lizard collection. I am also envious of such closeness to these supercool creatures. Thanks a lot Nalini :))

Chain Postcard - Lizards And Colours

Last year was the year of chain postcards, it was a great way to give this lizard card a life, and with such colourful stamps :)) From Croatia, Poland Slovenia and Serbia.

Western Green Lizard

IMHO a wonderful portrait of a wall lizard, as they are so common we take them for granted but they are capable of great posing! Heh. Many thanks to Regina for her surprise card for my collection :))

Plumed Basilisk

Also called lagarto de Jesus Cristo (Jesus Christ lizard) for its ability to run on the surface of water; this member of the corytophanid family is found in Central American rainforests near rivers and streams. It is also an excellent swimmer and can stay under water for up to 30 minutes.

Endemic Mauritius

Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean to the east of Madagascar. Due to its isolation, it has a relatively low diversity of wildlife; however, a high proportion of these are endemic species occurring nowhere else in the world. Many of these are now threatened with extinction because of human activities including habitat destruction and the introduction of non-native species. Some have already become extinct, most famously the dodo which disappeared in the 17th century.

This postcard shows some of those wonderful endemic species that are critically endangered - Pink Pigeon. Day Gecko, Mauritius Kestrel, Echo Parakeet, Fody and Mauritius Olive White-Eye. Always a sad story...I mean look at that gorgeous colourful gecko, or tiny bird on human's fingertips...

Conservation work in Mauritius is carried out by the National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS) and by non-governmental organizations such as the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT). Efforts to preserve native flora and fauna have included captive breeding, habitat restoration and the eradication of introduced species.

Collared Lizard, USA

My lizard collection has grown considerably in the last few months, yay :) I absolutely LOVE this pic, what a pose! Its the eastern collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris), found in dry, open regions of Mexico and the south-central United States. They are well known for the ability to run on their hind legs, looking like small theropod dinosaurs. The name "collared lizard" comes from the lizard's distinct coloration, which includes bands of black around the neck and shoulders that look like a collar.

Philippine Fauna

New lizard and new cute animal for my collections, thanks to Isabel :)

Varanus salvator (water monitor lizard) is a large lizard native to South and Southeast Asia. Water monitors are one of the most common monitor lizards found throughout Asia, and range from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India to Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, and various islands of Indonesia, living in areas close to water.

Tragulus napu (greater mouse deer)  is solitary and nocturnal. It uses small trails through thick brush in the forest. It was thought to be regionally extinct in Singapore until it was rediscovered on an offshore island in 2008. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest.

Lizard In Komodo NP

Wasn't quite sure how to title this one! I have swapped for this purely because its a lizard card, luckily I already have a Komodo NP card...if I am not mistaken this on the photo is an iguana? Which is native to the Americas. Still, a handsome individual ;)

Iberian Emerald Lizard

Ohoh what a wonderful surprise in my mailbox! The Iberian emerald lizard or Schreiber's green lizard is found in Portugal and Spain - its natural habitats are temperate forests and shrublands, Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, rivers, and pastureland. It is threatened by habitat loss :(

This particular fella represents the Mondego river valley in the Portuguese municipality of Guarda, Marta's home - thank you so much/muito obtigado amiga! And for the excellent stamp :)

Official - Chameleon In Pose

Very nice addition to my lizard collection came as an official card from Ukraine, with quite a selection of stamps. Not so common in the world of officials!

Green Iguana From French Guiana

Such a great surprise in my mailbox last week, iguana card from French Guiana! These fellas here have such bright colours, thanks a lot Cheryll :))

Btw if anyone is familiar with postcodes in French overseas territories...any idea what 25926A stands for? It is not the FG code but also for any other place, according to google. Puzzled!

Frill-Necked Lizard, Australia

This is one of the earliest and and my favourite lizard postcards and yet I post it only now...love the photography! Thank you Heather, you have significantly enlarged my lizard collection :))

On the right a Mangrove Golden Whistler, with gorgeous yellow breast (other posts below also have bird stamps, I am not sure everyone has noticed ;))

So, enough birds for today! They will surely be present on many other posts, and I can't say that I mind, they are the loveliest creatures. And more chirpy fellas here (mind you I am a bit early. again. khm khm :)):
