Rocher Perce, Gaspe, Canada

I was going through my scans thinking what to post next...there is much left to do. On the other hand, I've hardly swapped during this hiatus so there won't be many new scans to add. When I saw this one I remembered someone in the Facebook Postcrossing group recently asking if anyone could help him get an actual postmark on a postcard from Canada rather than the machine cancel. I think this is not my only Canadian 'proper' cancellation but it sure is nice to see! Many are not cancelled at all...and that is yet still better than the infamous 'pencilling'.

I quite like this official card too, its nicely atmospheric, thank you Carmen :)

Who Could Ask For Anything More?

The only Caribbean place missing (I Think) in my postcard collection is the Dominica, and my friend did work on a cruiser which docked in Dominica on a few occassions, but sadly couldn't find any postcards to send...my 2nd wish was a view card from Curacao as I didn't have any by that point - isn't it inviting? Just as a Caribbean view should be I suppose lol, thanks Matt :)

Btw I wasn't aware but upon glancing at this sticker stamp that NAf (Netherlands Antillean Guilder) is still being used in parts of the Dutch Caribbean.

Côte d'Azur Sand Postcard

Nine years may not seem that long ago in postal time, but to me it's like a different age...just starting to discover forums, FB groups...It was a time of no special swaps and no special postcard series...one of my first swap buddies was Deborah from France whom I've 'met' on FB. Sadly this was the last card she sent me before 'retiring' from postcrossing due to increase of postage rates. It is the only postcard I have to this day with actual sand in it - I wonder if its really taken from the beaches of Côte d'Azur..! And such a cute stamp, with the little cows also saying 'what a cute stamp' lol. And yes the hand cancellation, can't find them so easily these days in some 'mechanised' countries.

Petit Bot Bay, Guernsey

The south coast of Guernsey is quite spectacular and offers many hiking trails, only for the fit! Looks amazing, thank you Kathy :)

 

Montauk Point, USA

Another great coastal view comes from the US showing the Montauk Point Light,  a lighthouse located in Montauk Point State Park at the easternmost point of Long Island, Suffolk County, New York. Montauk Light was the first lighthouse in New York State, and is the fourth-oldest active lighthouse in the United States. The tower is 110'6" (34m) high; the current light, installed in July 2001, equivalent to approximately 290,000 candle power, flashes every 5 seconds and can be seen a distance of 17 nautical miles.

Apparently surfers like this spot too, even during the winter when its cooold. Thanks Patrick :)

 

Wild Ireland

Waves crashing against the coast of West Cork on the Beara Peninsula

 When I first set my eyes on this image all I could exclaim was 'No way!'. Is this for real?, I asked - sure is, said Dina. She is used to these kind of stunning views but here we wow about the waves half that size. Love it, thank you!

The Westernmost Point Of Ireland

A stunning view of the Dunmore Head (officially the westernmost point of Ireland and arguably Europe) and beyond the Blasket Islands, taken from Slea Head - all Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, southwest Ireland. Lots of names to remember! But the view is very easy to remember surely even more so 'in person', especially with all those sheep staring at you lol thanks Patrik! Extra thanks for the lovely stamps :)

 

The Courant d’Huchet, France

This amazing stretch of land exists in Europe and yet not so easy to find info. My friend went on a surfing spree to the southwest coast of France called Côte des Landes, which is again part of Côte d’Argent (Silver Coast). The picture shows the Courant d’Huchet, an overflow of the Léon Lake which snakes its way down to the ocean through a luxurious forest tunnel to earn its name of “The Amazon of the Landes”. It is protected as a Natural Reserve.

 

Tōjinbō Coast, Japan

Tōjinbō is a series of surreal basaltic cliffs on the Sea Of Japan on the biggest Japanese island Honshu. The cliffs' rocks were originally formed 12- to 13-million years ago during the Miocene Epoch due to various volcanic activities. Their shape has been formed through the years by erosion from sea waves. Many legends surround the cliffs, but sadly it is a harsh reality that many young, unemployed Japanese men decide to end their lives at this spot :(

Two Lovers Point, Guam

A new territory in my collection :D

Guam  is unincorporated territory of the United States located in the western Pacific Ocean. Its the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands, with capital Hagåtña, tourism being its principal industry. Chamorro are its indigenous peoples as well as in Northern Mariana Islands. We learned about them mostly through legends and myths, archaeological evidence and  Jesuit missionary accounts. The first colony was established in 1668 by Spain, and lasted until 1898 when it was surrendered to the United States during the Spanish-American War.

The photo shows one of Guam's most populat attractions, Two Lovers Point (Puntan Dos Amantes). Its surrounded with a romantic legend of two lovers, a Spanish woman and a Chamorro man, who tied their hair together and jumped off the cliff into the sea because their families didn't approve of their relationship. Now it is a major love-paddlocks site ;)

Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, Ningaloo Coast, Australia

A gorgeous sunset view of the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse on the Western Australia's Ningaloo Coast. I actually wanted this card because I thought I'd add it to my Unesco collection - but Ningaloo Coast is primarily protected because of its reef and unique marine life, so I'll be searching for a different card too! I LOVE it nonetheless :)

Another thanks to dear Heather, for new stamps too. And with the cancellations, yay!!

UNESCO - Dorset And East Devon Coast, UK

Known as the Jurassic Coast, the Dorset and East Devon coast is designated a WH Site by Unesco. Rich in fossil remains, the area is known for its dinosaur footprints, fossil forest and famous landmarks such as Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks and Golden Cap. Unspoilt but accessible, this coastline offers important opportunities for research, education and the enjoyment of superb scenery.
