Dancer At Chennakesava Temple, India

 

This beautiful intricate sculpture of a dancer is situated in Chennakesava Temple , which is part of a complex waiting on the Unesco's tentative list. Thank you very much Smitha :)

Gayer-Anderson Cat, UK

 

A replica of the Gayer-Anderson Cat, an Ancient Egyptian statue of a cat made out of bronze, from the Late Period, about 664-332 BC. It is a representation of the cat-goddess Bastet and wears jewellery and a protective wedjat amulet. It is presented in the British Museum, here a photo-shoot with a long-haired blotched tabby :)

UNESCO - Madara Rider, Bulgaria

 

The Madara Rider, representing the figure of a knight triumphing over a lion, is carved into a 100-m-high cliff near the village of Madara in north-east Bulgaria. Madara was the principal sacred place of the First Bulgarian Empire before Bulgaria’s conversion to Christianity in the 9th century. The inscriptions beside the sculpture tell of events that occurred between AD 705 and 801.

This is sort of a most 'specific' Unesco site where one postcard should be enough for representation...but it looks even more intriguing when you see the broader view of the cliff..! Would sure love to see it 'live' one day - as Nadezhda did, thank you lots!

UNESCO - Longmen Grottoes, China

The Longmen Grottoes are one of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhist art, housing tens of thousands of statues of Buddha and his disciples . They are situated  some 12 kilometres south of present day Luòyáng in Hénán province, central east China.

And once that I've seen their view from a distance, I was extra amazed and have to post it here! (source: wikipedia)

I was also curious about stamps, and found out that the 1st one shows the Palace Museum (the Forbidden City) and the 2nd the rock paintings (hunting scene) in Helan Mountains - an isolated desert mountain range forming the border of Inner Mongolia's Alxa League and Ningxia (northern China).

UNESCO - Yungang Grottoes, China

The Yungang Grottoes are ancient Chinese Buddhist temple grottoes near the city of Datong in the province of Shanxi. They are an outstanding example of the Chinese stone carvings from the 5th and 6th centuries. All together the site is composed of 252 grottoes with more than 51,000 Buddha statues and statuettes.

I am left with nothing but sighs of bewilderment when I look at Chinese Unesco sites...Thank you Jinzhou :))
