The Hill Of Crosses, Lithuania

A card that was in my favourites and was sent to me for vacation RR on the forum many many months ago...many thanks to Ieva :)
The Hill of Crosses (Kryžių kalnas) is a site of pilgrimage about 12 km north of the city of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. The precise origin of the practice of leaving crosses on the hill is uncertain, but it is believed that the first crosses were placed on the former Jurgaičiai or Domantai hill fort after the 1831 Uprising. The exact number of crosses is unknown, but estimates put it at about 100,000 in 2006. I guess putting a cross there is believed to give you blessings..!

UNESCO - Vilnius Historic Centre, Lithuania

Political centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 13th to the end of the 18th century, Vilnius has had a profound influence on the cultural and architectural development of much of eastern Europe. Despite invasions and partial destruction, it has preserved an impressive complex of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and classical buildings as well as its medieval layout and natural setting.
I was completely surprised to realise that I, in fact, haven't blogged about Vilnius so far..! Or maybe I forgot to add a tag...I do have a couple of views of this beautiful town, last received is from Heidi with the Lithuanian postcrossing stamp :)

UNESCO - Kernavė Archaeological Site (Cultural Reserve Of Kernavė), Lithuania

Situated in the valley of the River Neris, the site is a complex ensemble of archaeological properties, encompassing the town of Kernavė, forts, some unfortified settlements, burial sites and other archaeological, historical and cultural monuments from the late Palaeolithic Period to the Middle Ages.

This was a complete and utter surprise for the vacation RR - I have completely forgotten about a group for which I havent received a postcard, and about the Angel Cards project...A new Unesco, splendid view, with a matching stamp - this is a perfect Angel card Ieva, thank you so much xD

Marilyn And The Press

Beautiful Marilyn's smile as she poses for the press...She was really something wasn't she?
The stamp is not only round but awesomly big - issued in 2000 celebrating Lithuanian medals at the Sydney Olympics, with the flag colours in the background. Its the kind of stamp that makes you go 'wow' when you turn the back of a postcard :) Thanks so much Ingrida!

UNESCO, Curonian Spit, Lithuania

LT-214853

Curonian Spit, or Kuršių Nerija in Lithuanian, is an Unesco site shared by Lithuania and Russia because its southern portion lies within Kaliningrad Oblast. It is a long (98 km) curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast, and is home to the highest drifting sand dunes in Europe.
Such a thoughtful postcard, Unesco and with lovely Europa stamp :) I have been hesitant to participate further in the official Postcrossing because many users send random cards (but conveniently ask for special ones :/ ) This  one shows there is still hope for the official side of Postcrossing xD

The Three Donkeys, Lithuania

LT-150383

I have seen this postcard somewhere for sure - and yet i cannot detect it in either my collection or my favourites...! In any case its always a special surprise to receive a donkey card via official site :) This time from a veterinarian who adores animals! The EXPO stamps is very cool too :)))
