UNESCO - Kasbah Of Algiers, Algeria

The Kasbah of Algiers is an outstanding example of a historic Maghreb city having had extensive influence on town-planning in the western part of the Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa. In this living environment where nearly 50,000 people reside, very interesting traditional houses, palaces, hammams, mosques and various souks are still conserved, the urban form of which bears witness to an effect of stratification of several styles in a complex and original system that has adapted remarkably well to a very hilly and uneven site.

UNESCO - Tipasa, Algeria

On the shores of the Mediterranean, Tipasa was an ancient Punic trading-post conquered by Rome and turned into a strategic base for the conquest of the kingdoms of Mauritania. It comprises a unique group of Phoenician, Roman, palaeochristian and Byzantine ruins alongside indigenous monuments such as the Kbor er Roumia, the great royal mausoleum of Mauretania.

This site encompasses so much more than any single view card could represent, you really should google it, it looks fantastic! But so is this card, thanks a lot Ledmia :))

Preparing Tea In Algeria

It's been a while since I've received this card with lovely stamps to match...and a lovely invitation from Algeria, thank you Riyad (once again) :)

UNESCO - Djémila, Algeria

The site of Djémila is located 50 km north-east of the town of Sétif. Known under its antique name Cuicul, Djémila is an establishment of an ancient Roman colony founded during the reign of Nerva (96 - 98 A.D.). The Roman town occupied a singular defensive position.

Situated 900 m above sea-level, Djémila/Cuicul, with its forum, temples, basilicas, triumphal arches and houses, is an interesting example of Roman town planning adapted to a mountain location.

Touareg Woman On A Donkey, Algeria

Oh how happy I was to receive this surprise postcard from Riyad, and how gutted that it came in this state! I cannot imagine where its been to get crumpled like that...but the joy still beat the sadness and i am very grateful :)) Showing a Touareg woman wearing festive clothing.

Oran, Algeria

Oran  is a major city on the northwestern Mediterranean coast of Algeria, and the second largest city of the country. It is my first city view card from Algeria, thanks to Riyad :)

 

UNESCO - Timgad, Algeria

Great addition to my collection last week - Timgad lies on the northern slopes of the Aurès mountains, 480 km south-east of Algiers and 110 km to the south of Constantine. This Roman military colony was created ex nihilo (out of nothing)  in 100 A.D. by Trajan, and is an excellent example of Roman town planning.

Djurdjura National Park, Algeria

The national park of Djurdjura is located in Kabylie and is named after the Djurdjura Range of the Tell Atlas. The park is home to a very broken tectonics, as well as many forests, grottoes, gorges, and important fauna, including the endangered Barbary Macaque.

This is my first w&s postcard from Algeria...after two unsuccessful swaps...thanks goes to Abdel who also used some interesting stamps :)
