UNESCO - Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay

This was a great surprise, as i have arranged a private swap some months ago and wasn't sure what was happening with that..! My 1st written & stamped card from Uruguay is of Colonia del Sacramento, whose historical centre is the country's sole whs unesco heritage site :) i love street lanterns, and even more i love street signs! when i travel i take photos of unique and interesting street signs - which is sometimes looked upon as weird, but oh well!
Founded by the Portuguese in 1680 on the Río de la Plata, the city was of strategic importance in resisting the Spanish. After being disputed for a century, it was finally lost by its founders. The well-preserved urban landscape illustrates the successful fusion of the Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial styles.
The stamps are also great, showing a man selling trinkets; and a gaucho/bolas (boleadoras)as a very important piece of equipment for hunting animals.
Huge thanks to Daniela, you really made me happy with this one! :))
