UNESCO - Borobudur Temple, Indonesia

 

Borobudur is a 9th century Mahayana Buddhist monument situated in central Java. The main dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside a perforated stupa. The monument is both a shrine and a place for pilgrimage.

Tian Tan Buddha, Hong Kong

Tian Tan Buddha is also known as The Big Buddha; the statue was completed in 1993 and located at Ngong Ping (near the Po Lin Monastery), Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and religion. Standing 34 meters tall, its the 2nd largest sitting Buddha statues in the world  (it doesnt come close to the 1st on the list - The Great Buddha Of Thailand is staggering 92m high..!)

As Manyee/memymanyee wrote on the card: some people say, since this Buddha was built there are fewer typhons in Hong Kong. May that good vibe continue! :))

Official - Bodhisattva, Japan

After a long while i have sent the maximum number of cards on the official postcrossing site, which is at the moment 13. So last week i've received quite a few as well - and oh what a joy that two are from Japan xD

This is Avalokitesvara - a Bodhisattva (enlightenment-being in Buddhism) who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. It is one of the more widely revered bodhisattvas in mainstream Mahayana Buddhism. This particular sculpture is situated in Eiho-ji, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple in northern Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture. The whole complex looks absolutely stunning!
