I have written about this site some posts ago as it featured on a multiview card, but here is a reminder - a sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its
five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in
Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues. There is also a spring which drips its water, said to have healing powers, out of a crack in the ceiling.
My dream of visiting this amazing place called Sri Lanka continues...in the meantime, I am thrilled to have postcards from there, thanks to Hema :))
