UNESCO - Medina Of Essaouira (Mogador), Morocco

Sadly I havent been able to visit this town, though I've heard great things about it...If I was to manage just one town on the Moroccan coast, it would be Essaouira. It has been occupied since prehistoric times; it was seized by the Portuguese in the 16th cent; the present city of Essaouira was built during the 18th century when Mohammed III wished to reorient his kingdom towards the Atlantic for increased exchanges with European powers, and chose Mogador as his key location.
Today the medina is home to many small arts and crafts businesses, and the town renowned for its kitesurfing and windsurfing.
