UNESCO - Aachen Cathedral, Germany

With its columns of Greek and Italian marble, its bronze doors, the largest mosaic of its dome (now destroyed), the Palatine Chapel of Aachen has, from its inception, been perceived as an exceptional artistic creation. It was the first vaulted structure to be constructed north of the Alps since antiquity.

UNESCO - Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Australia

 

 

This park, formerly called Uluru (Ayers Rock – Mount Olga) National Park, features spectacular geological formations that dominate the vast red sandy plain of central Australia. Uluru, an immense monolith, and Kata Tjuta, the rock domes located west of Uluru, form part of the traditional belief system of one of the oldest human societies in the world. The traditional owners of Uluru-Kata Tjuta are the Anangu Aboriginal people.

Dorset Apple Cake

 

As its the weekend and we have cake for dessert (today its lemingtons) its only apt to share this delicious view - if anyone is interested in the recipe i'll gladly forward it :)

Record Tay Salmon, Scotland

 

Here is an interesting re-print of a photography taken in 1922, showing Miss Georgina Ballantine who caught a record-size tay salmon (almost 1,4 meters in length), and it seems that record stays unbeaten ever since. Go girl! ;)

Kirdiy - Bunny With A Key

As I am running out of time here is the last postcard with a sea-creature stamp, and an amazing one it is - the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), a species of baleen whale. The stamp is aptly huge, and the whale mother with its cub graceful despite its enormous size. Gotta love the Russian Mail and the variety of stamps they print out each year!

St. George's Harbour, Grenada

St. George's is the capital of Grenada  -  a city surrounded by a hillside of an old volcano crater and situated on a horseshoe-shaped harbor. It is a popular Caribbean tourist destination with a moderate tropical climate that ensures the success of spice production. Both its fortified system and historic district are placed on the Unesco's tentative list.

The little birdie is a yellow-breasted warbler; the colourful representative of sea creatures is Holacanthus tricolor also known as the rock beauty, a species of marine angelfish that inhabits reefs from the tropical western Atlantic Ocean to the northern Gulf of Mexico.

 

Bahamas Beach

I will be away for the weekend but I do know the theme for the next Sunday Stamps, which is sea creatures. Yes I am quite early, but I have skipped one sunday and this topic is a good inspiration for a bit of blogging.

Lovely beach view from the Bahamas sent by Niki, who used great stamps, thanks! Among them two sea creatures - Spirobranchus giganteus, commonly known as Christmas tree worms,  tube-building polychaet worms; and Lobatus gigas, commonly known as the queen conch, a species of large edible sea snail.
