''The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y , meaning "water", and ûasú , meaning "big".Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage the god sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall''

Towns Of Republika Srpska, Bosnia And Herzegovina
Banja Luka is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the administrative capital and largest city of the Republika Srpska entity. The postcard shows an old fort "Kastel" (Latin: Castra) in the centre of the city; it is one of the oldest buildings in the country, whose origins are not certain but but it is believed that it was built in the 3rd century by the Romans.
The town of Prijedor, within the municipality of Prijedor, is located in the north-western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the banks of the Sana and Gomjenica rivers, and at the south-western hills of the Kozara mountain. Prijedor is the 3rd, largest municipality in the Republika Srpska entity, after Banja Luka and Bijeljina and the 7th largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It always reminds me of a penpal that I had during Yugoslavian times.
Hvala puno Jasmine, posebni dodaci kolekciji! :))
UNESCO - Ancient City Of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka
Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. bears witness to several civilizations, notably that of the conquering Cholas, disciples of Brahminism, and that of the Sinhalese sovereigns during the 12th and 13th centuries. This immense capital created by the megalomaniac sovereign, Parakramabahu I, in the 12th century, is one of history's most astonishing urban creations, both because of its unusual dimensions and because of the very special relationship of its buildings with the natural setting.
The postcard shows Potgul Vihara or Library Monastery, which is believed to had been built, as mentioned in the chronicle, “for listening to the birth stories of the Great Sage, which were related by a teacher”. Today, if you enter the round room, which is plastered, the acoustics are still excellent.
Many thanks for this swap Naafiah :))
UNESCO - Major Mining Sites Of Wallonia, Belgium
Grand-Hornu is an old industrial mining complex built by Henri De Gorge between 1810 and 1830. It is a unique example of functional town-planning. As one of four Major Mining Sites of Wallonia, UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site in 2012. This postcard shows houses of engineers at the oval courtyard. Thanks so much Gerda, and for the lovely stamps! :))
UNESCO - Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
These are among the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The Zambezi River, which is more than 2 km wide at this point, plunges noisily down a series of basalt gorges and raises an iridescent mist that can be seen more than 20 km away.
It was great to receive this romantic sunset view of the Victoria Falls, thanks so much Luke :)01. 05. 2013.

UNESCO - Natural And Culturo-Historical Region Of Kotor, Montenegro
In the Middle Ages, this natural harbour on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro was an important artistic and commercial centre with its own famous schools of masonry and iconography. A large number of the monuments (including four Romanesque churches and the town walls) were seriously damaged by the 1979 earthquake but the town has been restored, largely with UNESCO’s help.
Today the city of Kotor has a population of 13,510 and is the administrative center of the municipality. It is situated at a ria, a submerged river canyon, surrounded by nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen. The zig-zagging path on the left leads to Cetinje, a historical capital, and has been used continuously for almost a millenium.
I have to say this...the town is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places I have ever visited...The setting is just stunning, and there are so many small plazas and churches you just keep on sighing at every corner...well at least it was like that for me, and would encourage everyone to visit!
