The full name of the site is Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui – Xidi and Hongcun; both are situated in Yi County, Anhui Province (east of China). This is Hongcun, placed near the southwest slope of Mount Huangshan. The architecture and carvings of the approximately 150 residences dating back to the Ming (14-17th cent.) and Qing Dynasties are said to be among the best of their kind in China.
